This specimen was verified by Jay Justice as a variation of the Amanita caesarea. I am a novice at using spore identification, as it raises more questions than if I didn't look at the spores. They don't seem to match the species, but the mushroom looks the same and with an experts verification who am I to dispute his classification. I must say, Jay didn't know exactly what variation to call this one, so he suggested chevron to reflect the markings on the stipe. This specimen was verified by Jay Justice, Walt Sundberg and Andy Methven. However none could determine what the variety was so I named the variety. |
